What is CMPI?
Client Money Protection Insurance (CMPI) protects the money of landlords and tenants against theft or misuse by the owners of the letting agent whilst it is in their custody or control.
This money is usually the tenant’s deposits and landlord’s rental payments, but can also include landlord’s money held for repairs and maintenance to the property.
Client Money Protection insurance means that if a letting agent misuses this money the landlords and tenants are able to claim compensation against the letting agent.
If a genuine claim is accepted, the ‘body/organisation’ will recompense the landlord or tenants.
Whilst Client Money Protection Insurance is not yet compulsory in the UK for letting agents, it is now widely recognised within the property industry that this type of protection is the very minimum requirement for a well-run and professional agent like Popular Move.
